Kindergarten Room

Children aged 4 years to 5 years

Our kinder room is where our little people conclude their journey of growth and learning with Cockatoo Community Childcare, as they prepare to venture of into the exciting world of Primary school. The kindergarten program is the place where play-based learning and our school readiness program combine. This combination continues to foster a love of learning through inquiry, investigation and exploration while providing the children with the best possible start to their formal education.

We believe that children reach their full potential when they are challenged and involved in dictating their own learning. In our kinder room, you will find open ended resources, options for self-selection and intriguing learning environments which invite the children to participate in play. Our educators understand and respect the role that the environment plays in the education of the kinder children. We offer an indoor-outdoor program and Bush Kinder sessions, where the children can engage freely in nature while supporting the development of their emotional and physical wellbeing. Connecting with the land and local community are a fundamental part of our program and supports the development of the whole child.

In the kinder room we view all our learners as competent and capable. Their agency is supported when they are involved in the decisions that influence events or impact their lives and we encourage this as part of our daily program. Our program also encourages children to take risks in a safe and supportive environment. Being able to gauge risk and act accordingly is an essential lifelong skill that also build’s confidence and keeps children safe. Our experienced and knowledgeable educators provide play-based experiences, and regular excursions and incursions such as to the library bus and dance and art classes; where children explore literacy and numeracy concepts, creative arts and self-help skills.
